Geotechnical Investigation for Agra Metro Corridor-II Project, Uttar Pradesh

Overview:

Cengrs Geotechnica Pvt. Ltd. conducted a comprehensive geotechnical investigation for the Agra Metro Corridor-II Project (Package AGCC-07), covering the design and construction of the elevated viaduct from Agra Cantt Metro Station to Kalindi Vihar Metro Station, spanning 18.23 km. The study ensured safe and cost-effective foundation design for the corridor, elevated stations, Yamuna River bridge, and depot ramp.

Client & Project Details:

  • Client: M/s L&T Construction
  • Project: Elevated metro viaduct, stations, river bridge, and depot ramp
  • Location: Agra, Uttar Pradesh
  • Purpose: Detailed geotechnical investigation for foundation design and seismic assessment

Key Findings:

  • Stratigraphy: Detailed subsurface soil and rock profiling up to 30–70 m depth.
  • Groundwater: Monitored for accurate foundation-level design, including boreholes in flowing water of River Yamuna.
  • Seismic & Liquefaction Assessment: Down-hole seismic tests performed to evaluate seismic behavior and optimize foundation design.

Technical Highlights:

Field Investigations:

  • Nearly 150 deep boreholes up to 30–70 m depth, including five in the Yamuna River.
  • Field permeability tests at multiple depths.
  • SPT energy measurements to standardize energy transfer.
  • Down-hole seismic testing for foundation seismic design.

Laboratory Testing:

  • Soil classification, strength, and compressibility tests for foundation bearing capacity and settlement analysis.

Engineering Recommendations:

  • Data-driven foundation design to ensure safety and cost-efficiency across the corridor.
  • Seismic and liquefaction considerations integrated into foundation planning.

Client Impact:

  • The investigation provided L&T Construction with precise soil, groundwater, and seismic data, enabling safe, optimized, and economical foundation design for Agra Metro Corridor-II.

Conclusion:

  • Cengrs Geotechnica’s detailed geotechnical study supported the development of Agra’s metro infrastructure, contributing to safe, sustainable, and resilient urban transport systems.
